YOUR BIRTH CHART

What is an Astrological Birth Chart Reading?

There’s nothing more uplifting than looking up to the stars on a clear night, right? That expansive feeling, the one that magically eradicates our problems, if not for just a moment. As we lean into the Aquarian Age, our thoughts may begin to travel further as we open our minds to extraordinary insights and new revelations about our lives here on planet earth.

Astrology may be a topic of conversation that will be rippling through many more communities.

What is Astrology?

Astrology is said to be the study regarding the connection between celestial activity and earthly events.

Celestial activity refers to the movements and placements of the moon and planets that orbit our golden sun.

Earthly events speaks of our own human experience related to ourselves, home, relationships, work & wellbeing.

Where did Astrology come from?

Mesopotamia, Iraq, around 3000 years ago. The earliest surviving horoscopic chart is dated 410 B.C.E. in Babylon. The ancient Babylonians looked to the celestial bodies for information that they believed controlled life and events on Earth.

They created a map which we know as ‘The Zodiac’. A belt shaped region of the sky that extends approximately 8° north and south around the sun. Within this zodiac belt they tracked the journey of the brightest planets and the moon moving along their orbital planes. They then split the zodiac up into 12 parts.

The 12 Zodiac Signs

  • Aries (March 21 – April 19)

  • Taurus (April 20 – May 20)

  • Gemini (May 21 – June 20)

  • Cancer (June 21 – July 22)

  • Leo (July 23 – August 22)

  • Virgo (August 23 – September 22)

  • Libra (September 23 – October 22)

  • Scorpio (October 23 – November 21)

  • Sagittarius (November 22 – December 21)

  • Capricorn (December 22 – January 19)

  • Aquarius (January 20 – February 18)

  • Pisces (February 19 – March 20)

The Babylonians then developed personal astrology charts, Birth Charts, for individuals, based on where the sun, moon and planets where at the time of their birth on the zodiac. This chart was an early form of divination if you will. They believed that the movements of the planets and stars in the sky revealed much about an individual’s character, personality, strengths, weaknesses and passions to their life path and events that are likely to unfold in their lifetime.

Having your astrological birth chart done can be an incredibly eye opening, mind blowing and life affirming experience! I recommend it.

Each of the 12 zodiac signs have unique characteristics you see, which will come into play as you delve deeper into your birth chart.

Your Zodiac Signs

First things first, you’d learn of your Sun sign: This is the zodiac sign that the Sun shone in at the moment you took your first breath. Your birthday! Your ‘Sun Sign’ sheds  light on your character, your ego and your intentions in this life.

To get a wider understanding of your birth chart it’s essential to know the time of your birth and location too. This helps pin point other signs of the zodiac you too embody.

You’d next look at your Rising sign and Moon sign to give you a fuller picture of who you are.

Your Rising sign: This is the zodiac sign that was ascending on the eastern horizon at the time of your birth. Your ‘Rising sign’ speaks to the image you project out into the world, your personality! It’s a little different to your sun sign and gives an insight into your skills and talents.

Your moon sign: This is the zodiac sign inhabited by the moon at the time of your birth, and gives an insight into your emotions, what makes you feel safe and your values.

Interesting stuff. You’d then dive into finding out where the planets were on the zodiac, on your 0st birthday.

Here’s a glimpse into what they might tell you about parts of yourself and your life experiences to come.

Mercury:  The planet of communication, expression and cognition.

Venus:  The planet of love,  passion, relationships, pleasure and money.

Mars: The planet of action, energy, sexual expression and courage.

Jupiter: A wonderful expansive planet, bringing luck and abundance.

Saturn: The planet of discipline, boundaries, rules and limitations.

Uranus: The planet of change, rebellion, breakthroughs and sudden events.

Pluto: The planet of transformation, death, rebirth and power.

Two more details to consider, then I’ll finish up! Don’t forget to look into your North and South Nodes. In a nutshell…

North & South Nodes: The north node represents your soul purpose, and gives a hint into what areas you’re meant to move towards in this life. The south node is what you're already attuned to, qualities you were born with perhaps as a result of early or past life experience.

So I hope you enjoyed this brief introduction into your Astrological Birth Chart and why it might be worth being curious. Perhaps we are more related and influenced by the stars than we initially thought - why don’t you have a peek into your personal astrology chart and see how you feel about it all.  There’s far too much to talk about on this small page, but I hope you might be inspired to find out your Sun, Rising and Moon sign after reading this!

I find Astrology to be very helpful and I definitely sleep better at night under those twinkling lights knowing that we have this extra system of support out there, up in the celestial heavens, working alongside us always, guiding us towards our best lives.
